Refurbishment:
The project began with the refurbishment of an existing historically listed house. This phase focused on restoring the house’s original features while incorporating modern amenities and structural reinforcements to preserve its historical integrity.
New-Build:
A new addition was built to extend the existing residence, covering approximately 450m². The new structure featured a portal frame composed of steel and concrete. Extensive retaining wall structures were constructed to form a terraced garden, with all walls exceeding 3 meters in height. A concrete-shell swimming pool was built, founded on piles and ground beams to retain the existing adjacent random packed stone retaining wall.
Key Features and Attributes:
Several key features were integrated into both the refurbished and new-build sections. Hydronic underfloor heating was installed throughout to provide efficient and evenly distributed warmth. Curtain wall glazing systems were incorporated into portions of the new structure, allowing for ample natural light and expansive views. A cantilevered tread staircase was a striking architectural feature within the new addition.
Silicone injection was used to reinforce the existing building fabric that had been previously constructed below grade, ensuring structural integrity and moisture resistance. The new-build portion was topped with a copper mansard roof, adding a touch of elegance and durability. Additionally, a concealed grid inlet system was installed for the continuous pool rim-flow, enhancing the aesthetic and functional qualities of the swimming pool.
Overall, this project successfully blended historical preservation with modern construction techniques, resulting in a harmonious and functional residential space.
